What to look for in a hat, while buying one?

Sure, you don’t need to know the different parts of a cap, just like you don’t need to know the different parts of a watch, as long as it works. But since it’s your head and face you’re protecting, sometimes while wandering for long hours in the sun, don’t you think it's wiser to know the qualities to look for while buying one? Here’s the list, in no particular order.

Sweatband

That part which is in constant contact with your forehead, absorbing sweat from your skin, and sometimes gets itchy. Not when you wear our hats, nu-uh. Ours are made with cotton blend fabric with a soft foam inside to provide a light-cushioned fit. Made in charcoal / darker fabric to keep looking fresh after many wears.

Brim or Visor

This is the term used to describe the front extension that provides sun protection. Look for ones that are easily foldable/packable for outdoor travels. And wide brimmed hats if you are looking to protect your neck from sun-damage as well. Slightly foamed ones, like ours, stay in shape and do not flop over the eyes while wearing them.

Size adjustability

We know they say 1 size fits all when it comes to caps. But what about round hats that do not have buckles for adjustment? All our hats come with some form of size adjustability, like elastic/buckles and even our adjustable sweatbands for berets and bucket hats. So next time you’re stuck in a windy place, at least you can count on your hat to not fly away!

Material

Again, super important point if you’re someone who gets irritated by stuffy hats. Look for hats made in natural fibre fabrics such as linen and cotton that’ll keep you cool in summers. Or wool and corduroys that’ll keep you warm in winters. Ensure your hats have good inside lining or eyelets to keep your head cool and fresh.

Another thing to look for is good durable threads that don’t open at the seams and stay in place after multiple washes. And do check the quality of buckles, velcros and other trims as well.

Attractive design element

Of course it matters what colour, shape and texture the hat has and if it matches your sense of style and wardrobe. It’s also important to check the quality of print/embroidery/sticker on the cap and if it’s something unique that shows a certain aesthetic that you like.

Ease of handling / packability

Something to take note of in case you love to travel with your hats, as you should. We know how annoying it is to hold your caps in your hand while taking a break on that beautiful hike. That’s the reason our active wear caps are made with foam visors that can be easily folded into your pocket and forgotten.

Workmanship

It is important to note the quality of workmanship that ensures longevity of the product. Neat stitching, trimming of extra threads, buckle strength, covering of inner portions neatly, are all things to look for in a good quality cap.

Utility

This is just about finding the right hat for the right occasion, just like it is with shoes. If it’s for the beach, we’d carry the lovely bow hats along. If it was for a quiet day at the cafe, we’d wear our berets as we sipped our coffee and read our favourite book for the seventh time.

Hats are such fun accessories, we’d honestly just suggest having fun by styling them your way!
